Is Sugar Toxic?

The article "Is Sugar Toxic?" ran in the Sunday New York Times Magazine on April 13, 2011. Gary Taubes, the author, cites Robert Lustig's lecture called "Sugar: The Bitter Truth," which has had a zillion viewings on YouTube since the May, 2009 lecture was posted in July of 2009.

Here's a link to the Times article - but - if it doesn't work for you - you can just google the title or title and author and you'll come up with the article:

Anyone who has been reading the Weston A. Price Foundation's journal "Wise Traditions" has been learning about the danger of sugar for some time. But it's great to see a well-respected mainstream newspaper like the NY Times giving some prominent coverage to this important topic. And it's interesting to learn a bit about the history of the question "is heart disease caused by a high fat diet or a high sugar diet?"

Professional researchers have to extremely cautious about the conclusions they draw from their studies, which have to be very narrowly focused. But Taubes's article concludes with personal comments from two main researchers into the effects of sugar: one says he avoids it as much as possible, and the other one says "Sugar scares me."
